        In the field of geological engineering, monitoring the long-term fluctuation of groundwater level using drilling holes is a valuable technique for groundwater level assessment. There are many methods to measure the groundwater level of drilling holes. The common methods are rope measurement method, resistance measurement method and photoelectric measurement method. Today, I will focus on how to use photoelectric measurement methods to monitor the channel groundwater level in geological engineering projects. The method involves using the electronic device to determine the water surface location by acoustic and optical signals, and then quantifying the groundwater level using the scale or photoelectric signal.


        Groundwater level measurement and observation are the important tasks of engineering survey, construction projects and environmental monitoring. Detection of groundwater levels is crucial for assessing water levels in rural irrigation areas, reservoirs, dams, river defenses, and power stations. Unfortunately, only a few portable ground table level testers meet regulatory standards. These testers often face the problems of low accuracy, slow response time, and high price. This paper presents a new detection instrument to address these shortcomings. It enables the integrated measurement and reading of the groundwater table, and provides sound and light alarm to achieve accurate water surface positioning and measurement value. The instrument is portable, easy to use, cost-effective and suitable for wide use. Its versatility makes it ideal for groundwater level monitoring in various geological engineering projects.

Development of groundwater level detector:

The portable groundwater level tester is mainly composed of sensor probe, steel ruler cable, receiving system, winding coil and power supply. The steel ruler cable is wrapped on the cable winch, one end is connected with the sensor probe, and the other end is connected with the receiving system. The side of the cable winch is inlaid with an instrument display panel, and the receiving system is connected with the power supply part and placed in the cavity of the cable winch.


The sensor probe is developed and designed, made of pure copper, with two sets of detectors inside, installed with water resistance contact point. When the contact touches the water surface, it will turn on the receiving system, and when the contact leaves the water surface, the receiving system will automatically turn off the receiving system.

The steel ruler cable is made of steel ruler and cable, which not only prevents the corrosion of the steel ruler, but also simplifies the operation process, and makes the reading more convenient and accurate. The winding coil is composed of a winding disk and a bracket. The receiving system and power supply are all placed in the core cavity of the winding coil, and the cavity surrounds the steel ruler cable. The receiving system consists of a buzzer and an LED light indicator. The buzzer is driven by the amplifier circuit; the LED light indicates red light and improves the reading and reading accuracy.

Use method of the water level gauge:

In the measurement process of portable groundwater table detector, the sensor probe enters the hole (well) casing of the positioning pulley, and the cable is straightened and lowered by the gravity of the sensor probe. When the sensor probe begins to contact the underground water body, the water enters the sensor probe through the through hole in front of the probe, so that a pair of long electrodes contact the water, the water intensifies the green indicator light, the buzzer makes a continuous sound, indicating that the probe has entered the underground water body; at this time to slow the speed of the cable, the sensor probe continues to sink into the water, when the short electrode contact the water surface, the red indicator light circuit conduction. When all the green and red lights are turned on, the surveyors stop dropping the cable and read the scale value of the steel ruler from the lower edge of the positioning casing of the positioning pulley. At this time, the read value is the depth value of the groundwater level, and the groundwater level can be converted through the elevation of the hole.
